DS x Métiers d'Art

Started by DS Automobiles, DS x MÉTIERS D'ART is a design competition that aims to discover art craftspeople installed in France.
The aim is to present new techniques, materials and solutions that can be integrated in a unique DS street car, and feed the creativity of DS Automobiles. This design competition is carried out in partnership with Métiers Rares, the first consulting firm specializing in the promotion of crafts and founding patron of the media The Craft Project.
Since its creation in 2014, the Brand has built bridges with French artisans and its own creations. It has specialized in integrating new know-how into its series models and concept cars, such as leather work or seams, or unexpected materials, such as feathers or straw marquetry.
In 2021, the first edition led to the creation of an exclusive DS 9 interior trim, which became a single piece, made by the laureate Anne Lopez, a graduate in the Fine Arts of Paris and the Ecole d’Art Mural Versailles.

REVELATIONS is the international biennial of fine crafts and contemporary creation. This major commercial gathering of the sector is the place for lively debates between the creative market’s professionals and art & craft lovers, around unreleased work. REVELATIONS was created in 2013 by Ateliers d'Art de France, the trade association representing 281 French artists and craftspeople.
The aim is to introduce new techniques, materials and solutions that can be presented in a unique DS street car, and feed the creativity of DS Automobiles.

In 2022/2023, DS Automobiles has started a second episode, christened DS LUMEN. This competition aims to highlight the effects of light passing through materials by applying it to the grille of New DS 3 E-TENSE, the 100% electric model. The works of the 9 art craftspeople in competition were showcased at the REVELATIONS exhibition, from June 7 to 11, 2023 in Paris.
The jury that nominated the winner was chaired by Hervé Lemoine, President of Mobilier National. The jury was made up of eight members, among the teams of DS Automobiles and influential personalities in the fields of art and creation.
This year, exceptionally, the public at the Révélations show were asked to take part in choosing the winners. Second prize and recipient of the "People’s Choice" award, Noue Atelier, represented by Charlotte Winné and Ludovic Buron, was commended for its rhythmic polished brass frame. Third place went to Justine Durand for her mosaic of eggshell pieces.
Lyse Drouaine, winner of the second DS x METIERS D’ART competition and founder of LUXDAWN design house, created a grille for a unique model: DS 3 E-TENSE LUMEN. This backlit grill consists of a weave of optical fibres, diffusing fibres and enamelled copper wires, as well as a printed adaptable adhesive.
« For the second of our design competitions, we wanted to tackle the theme of light. In the automotive world, it’s a key element. On the outside, it uncovers the sculptural surfaces of the bodywork, and enhances the visual identity of the car through the lights and headlights. Inside, it emphasises the atmosphere of the cockpit. Lyse Drouaine's work is a subtle blend of classical and modern. She used the loom which is a very old tool for working while bringing a great modernity through the materials used, especially technical ones such as fibre optics with natural ones to create a unique fabric designs. This undertaking is part of our SustaiNobility projects that combine sustainability and nobility. » Thierry Metroz, DS Automobiles Design Director.
